We will be utilizing an online request form for all requests for professional development, including requests by teams regarding an individual student, as well as other professional development needs. Our goal in meeting professional development request needs is to facilitate a collaborative problem-solving process to guide teams in creating realistic and sustainable learning plans, which in turn benefits students, strengthens relationships and increases professional efficacy. In order to meet this goal, updated procedures have been put into place to streamline the process. For more information or to make a request for professional development, please contact us. ----------------------------------------------------------- News & Events Transition University is a free, self-paced online course that focuses on providing information to help make transition planning easier for parents and caregivers of students of all ages that receive special education services. The Virginia Leadership Institue for SIM TM will be offered at JMU from June 15-18 with two additional days virtually for educators interested in becoming a SIM professional developer. Applications for Content Enhancement and Learning Strategies certifications have been extended to March 20. The 2020 Virginia State Reading Association Conference will be held March 26-28 at the Hotel Roanoke. This year's conference theme is Literacy Builds a Better World. Registration and agenda information are now available. ----------------------------------------------------------- T/TAC Staff Update We are excited to introduce Kathleen Wright as our new Coordinator of Early Childhood Special Education. For many years she has worked with a variety of students aged 2-22 as a Speech-Language Pathologist and comes to us with extensive experience in augmentative and alternative communication systems. She has collaborated with teams in inclusive early childhood classrooms to promote high-quality programs while meeting the needs of individual students.
